Ruth Ann Collins-Blocker (Willie Ruth) is the first of four girls born to Sylvester Collins and Mildred (Earls) Collins. Not long after the girls’ birth, the family relocated from Austin, Texas to San Antonio, Texas.
It was in San Antonio that Willie Ruth, as she is affectionately called by family and friends, found Christ at Antioch Baptist Church, and dedicated her life to serving The Lord.
She received her early education at Phillis Wheatley High School and graduated from Brackenridge High School. It was also in San Antonio, that she met Edward Keith Bradford to whom she gave a son, Cory Andre Collins.
Willie Ruth and her son returned to Austin, Texas with her mother and sisters after her father’s passing. In Austin, she established herself as a regular attendee of True Light Baptist Church and began her career at The Texas State Comptroller’s Office. She went on to marry the love of her life, Isaac Blocker, who cared for Willie Ruth and Cory until his departure.
Attending to her education, finding time to travel, and frequenting jazz festivals were among the joys of Willie Ruth’s life. She obtained an associate degree in Criminal Justice, a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, and a master’s degree in Political Science. Her travels took her to Las Cruces, New Mexico where she resided in the company and beauty of God’s mountains until she was called home.
Willie Ruth’s beloved family members who have preceded her in death include her parents Sylvester Collins and Mildred (Earls) Collins; her brother-in-law, Charles A. Allen, Jr.; and her loving husband, Isaac Blocker.
Willie Ruth is survived by her only son, Cory A. Collins of Austin, Texas (Joshua Christman and Cody Hastings); sister, Sylvia A. Collins-Bratcher of Austin, Texas (Lisa Hardy, Karen Collins); brother-in-law, Lenny Bratcher; sister, Rose M. Wright of Austin, Texas (Joel Stallion, Jr., Tyshawn Beavers, Tori Tolbert and Keia Collins); sister, A. Faye Allen of Austin, Texas (Kimberly Watts); and a host family, friends, and acquaintances who all loved her dearly.
