Willie Edward Suggs was born to the late Willie Suggs Sr. and Mary Suggs on August 10, 1947 in Kinston, North Carolina.
After completing Charity High School in Rose Hill, North Carolina, Willie joined The United States Air Force and was enlisted from 1965 to 1985. During his military career, his tours of duty included Vietnam, Japan and Germany. He retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base as a Master Sergeant. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Park University.
Following his service from the military, Willie worked for the United States Postal Service as a Union Steward and a postal clerk. He retired in 2005.
After retiring from the post office, Willie would often cook for others, which included barbecuing for his grandsons while watching football on the weekends. He also attended his grandson Braylon’s football games on Friday nights. Yes, yes, everyone knew that Willie was a Washington Redskins, now Commanders, fan.
Willie was brilliant and always had something insightful and thought provoking to say. He was a mentor and friend that you could always count on. He will truly be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 45 years Hattie Suggs of Austin, TX, his daughters, Cheryl Harris (Douglas Williams) of Elgin, TX, and Mary Sugg of Hutto, TX. He was blessed to have two grandsons, Braylon Sugg of Hutto, TX, and Aden Rowland of Elgin, TX. Willie also leaves behind his brother Andy Parker (Dorothy) and his sister Jennie Suggs-Myers (Daryl). He also leaves to cherish nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
