Sylvia Eleanor Robinson
March 16, 1934 - February 2, 2021
Sylvia Eleanor Simmonds Robinson 86, passed away peacefully February 2, 2021 in Hutto, Texas. She was born March 16, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to Horatio and Rachel Simmonds. Sylvia graduated Girls' High School in Boston class of 1952, before serving in the Women’s Air Force. After working in various fields, she received her Licensed Vocational Nursing certification from Lemuel Shattuck Nursing School in Boston. She later earned an Associate’s degree in Long Term Health Care from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. Nursing is where she found her passion, dedicating the remainder of her life working in the health care industry, caring for others.
Eddie Robinson, her former spouse and career Army soldier, provided Sylvia and the family the opportunity to live in many places including Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Hood, Texas; and Crailsheim, Germany. Sylvia caught the travel bug, and passed it on to her children, exposing them to and helping them appreciate diverse cultures. An avid reader, she loved to play cards and bingo with the residents of her retirement community and fellow Red Hatters. Sylvia was passionate about pets and adopted several dogs and cats during her lifetime. She was proud of her Jamaican heritage and had the chance to meet her relatives in Kingston, Jamaica on a family trip several years ago.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in law Hyacinth and John Joseph; brother John Simmonds; and nephews Richard Joseph and Dennis O. Simmonds. She leaves behind her sister Helaine Simmonds of Boston; sister in-law Catherine Green Simmonds of Mashpee, Mass; her sons and their wives Daryl and Ann Robinson of Austin, Texas; Wayne and Ju Shih Robinson of Penang, Malaysia; daughter and her husband Robyn and Emilio Ramos of Austin, Texas; daughter Jylle Joyner of Pflugerville, Texas; granddaughter Ashley Robinson of Austin, Texas; great granddaughter Ashlyn Robinson of Austin, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, other relatives, and good friends, all of whom she loved and touched deeply. She was also predeceased by her pet dachshund Poppy and leaves her cat Shadow who now lives in Boston.
