Shirley Ann-Macelias Oakmon Coleman was born January 21, 1937 to the late Lloyd and Roeaner Oakmon of Ganado, Texas.
Shirley was christened and then accepted Christ at an early age at Oakmon Chapel United Methodist Church in Ganado, Texas. She later attended Greater Union Baptist Church.
She attended George Washington Carver High School, Huston-Tillotson (Samuel Huston College) University. She worked for Melba’s Boutique and then retired after 30 years of service with Bealls.
Shirley was a very loving and caring person that had many friends. She was the fifth child of nine children and was one of the links to a very strong and bonded family. She was a role model for all that she came in contact with.
She united in holy matrimony to Robert T. Coleman.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Roeaner Oakmon; her son Lonnie Jones, sisters and brothers Alphia Oakmon, Clara Gray, Rose Harris, Lucy Scott, Barbara Crayton, Oscar Oakmon and Arlene Craigie.
Left to cherish her memories are sisters Alice Lane, Nora Oakmon; daughter Angela R. Coleman (Chris) ; grandsons Anthony Coleman (Karla), Myrek Coleman and James Griffin; granddaughter Jazmyne Griffin; great grandchildren Cameron Brooks, A.J. and Aubree Coleman, a host of nephews, nieces, and other family and friends.
