Sammie (Sam) Pye Shaw was born May 8, 1926 in Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, Texas to Estella Hutchins Pye Shaw and Rev. Mitchell Pye. He was the eldest of six siblings.

Sam professed a hope in Christ at an early age, and was baptized at the Onion Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Garfield, Texas.

In 1932 Sam attended the Del Valle Independent School District, up until Jr. High and High school years, but later decided to take up a trade in commercial & residential roofing, working within the Capitol Metro Area and throughout Texas. He also attended a Trade School here in Austin in Electrical Appliances, focusing on (Washers and Dryers), and later became Self-Employed, working in this field for many years until his health failed.

February 1972, Sam united in Holy Matrimony to his first love, Cleo (Nell) Miller Hill, and with this union seven children were united together in this union, until the death of his wife departed them after twenty six years.

In 1996, Sam joined the Rehoboth Primitive Baptist Church under the auspices of Rev. R.D. Reese, serving as Adult Sunday School Teacher, and also would alternate assisting with Superintendent duties. He loved attending weekly Bible Study and served where he was needed under the auspices of Rev. Ray Hendricks until his health failed him.

Sam’s hobbies and leisure time was spent watching wrestling on television and would often go to the live arenas on special occasions. He also loved playing spades and seasonal coon hunting.
