Mrs. Ruthie Lee Walker Wright was born on March 27, 1933, in St. John Colony, Dale, Texas, to the late Mr. Willie Walker and Mrs. Ora Lee Hemphill. She attended St. John Colony Public Schools in St. John Colony, Dale, Texas. She professed Christ at a young age and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church, St. John Colony, Dale, Texas.

Ruthie united in holy matrimony in 1953, to Melvin Wright Sr., and in this union, they raised six children. Her parents, husband, and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

Ruthie loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinners, where the entire family would gather. She was a loving mother, a caring sister, an attentive friend, and a passionate missionary. She loved to travel and have fun with her family. Shopping was her passion, and she enjoyed wearing her hats and suits to worship on Sunday morning. Ruthie served faithfully at Willie Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She later joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she served faithfully alongside her husband, Deacon Melvin Wright Sr. Later, she joined East 19th Street Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Reverend M.C. Walker.

Finally, with great joy and admiration, Ruthie joined Greater Ulit Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of her loving son, Reverend Melvin Wright Jr., where she diligently and faithfully gave her whole heart in service to the Lord. She faithfully and religiously attended Sunday School, B.T.U., and Mid-Week Service. Her voice would cry out to Heaven as she rendered the “Hymns of Old”! But most of all, Mother Wright was graciously dedicated to her mission work as she served as Mission I President until the end.

Ruthie leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Barbara N. Harris, and five sons, Jerry L. Wright (Carolyn), Willie E. Wright, Reverend Melvin Wright Jr., Ralph A. Wright, and Benjamin W. Wright (Jacqueline). She also leaves twenty-one (21) grandchildren, thirty (30) great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends.
