Mary Magdalene Garrett McNairy was born December 23, 1962, in Austin, Travis County, Texas at Holy Cross hospital to the proud parents of Cleo L. Garrett and Mattie C. Garrett.

Mary attended the Austin Public Schools, Blackshear Elementary; Porter Jr. High and David Crockett High School where she graduated in 1981.

She was baptized at an early age at Rosewood Avenue Baptist Church. She later united with Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eulon Brown, Sr. Mary later moved her membership to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Roy F. Jones, II where her membership remained.

To those who knew Mary got to enjoy her being the life of the party. She loved the Lord, her children and family. Mary loved to sing, dance, talk and was not a person to hold her tongue.

Mary’s greatest joy was praising God be it in a song, prayer or offering encouragement to others. When you asked Mary how she was doing, she would always say “I am blessed and highly favored!”.

Mary went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother: Cleo and Mattie Garrett, brothers: David Garrett, Woodrow Garrett and Rev. Willie Garrett.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory two children, daughter Tohi L. McNairy: Son Michael E. McNairy, Jr., both of Austin, Texas. Sister Margaret A. Garrett of Cedar Park, Texas, Brother Deacon James C. Garrett Sr. (Tracy) of Hutto, Texas. Nieces: Chaquanna Tre’ Tanesheon and Toria. Nephews: Mondre’ and James Jr. Great-nieces: Tiyanna, Maleigha and Harmony; Great-nephew: Jabez; A host of cousins, loved ones and friends.
