Leroy Jerome Hopes, Jr. was born in Taylor, Texas on February 14th, 1950 to the late Leroy Jerome Hopes, Sr. and Pearlie Mae Guy. Mr. Hopes accepted Christ at an early age attending Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and followed his fellowship at St. James Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member and served as a faithful Usher. He loved the Lord and his Church family.
He attended OL Price and graduated from Taylor H.S. He later joined the United States Military where he served for 3 years and received many medals (National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal, Combat Infantry Badge- Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal - Marksman M-14, 1 OS Bar Marksman M-16), He received an Honorable discharge with a Purple Heart.
He was a dedicated worker, and started employment with Lyndon Baines Johnson as a Building Maintenance Inspector for over 20 years. Leroy also worked as a dedicated Sales Delivery driver for AutoZone and took on a career with O’Reilly’s where he was employed until the day the Lord called him home.
Leroy's Hobbies was reading educational and history books and magazines, an avid Treky, he loved some Star Trek. Leroy Loved all of his family unconditionally, He was truly a family man that loved his family, He was an excellent provider and protector. He was a man of few words. He loved to sit on his back patio and listen to his Jazz, his favorite radio station KAZI and enjoy the company of his beloved dog Lucky. He also enjoyed watching the Steve Harvey Family Feud and CSI.
Leroy was proceeded in death by his Mother Pearlie Mae Guy, Father Leroy Jerome Hopes Sr., Grand Parents -Leslie & Hattie Guy and Tom & Lucinda Hopes, Sister Pearl Rose, Brothers Thomas Kelly and Michael McDonald.
Leroy is Survived by His Loving wife Lisa S. Hopes, Daughter- Latoya Hopes, Son Malcolm Hopes, Step-Daughters Melisaer Kelly, Kisha Hearn, and Meisha Hearn. Grandsons Derrin Wytaske, De’ Andre Wytaske, Kennis Justice Jr, Patrick Washington, Kentray Hopes-Jones, Ke’Andre Taylor, Phazzon Washington, Kamron Guyton. Grand daughters Tamia Hopes, Ka’ Naya Justice. Great- Grands Tay’ Linn Hopes, Da’ Mari Wytaske, De’ Andre Wytaske II. All of Austin, Texas, Siblings Dorothy Hopes of Austin, TX, Ruby Darden (Nathaniel) of Taylor Texas, Herbert (Mack) McDonald (Dorothy) of Houston, TX, Patricia Gillespie of Killeen, Texas, Carl McDonald (Jeanette) Houston, Texas, Renee Rossell of Taylor, Texas, and a Host of Nieces and Nephews and other relatives and friends.
