Larry A. Barnes transitioned Monday, May 29th, 2021. As a Texas native, Larry Barnes lived in Austin for over 40 years and spent the last 10 years in Houston, Texas. He was born September 15, 1953, in El Campo, Texas to Bertha Barnes of El Campo, Texas (she preceded him in death) and George Wade of Victoria. Larry Barnes graduated from El Campo High in 1971.Larry achieved the highest GPA of his graduating class and the 2nd highest student GPA in the history of the school.
Upon graduating Larry enlisted in the United States Airforce, studying mechanical engineering. Mr. Barnes also played professional basketball for Germany during his time spent overseas. After 5 years of service and obtaining the rank of E5, Larry was honorably discharged from the Airforce as a disabled Airmen due to a severe back and knee injury that occurred during a training exercise, in Germany.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by Carlotta Yett-Barnes and is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters; Deon Collins Sr., Shonnaree Collins, LaTasha Prichett (Emund), Ryman Barnes (Sharon), Carbrey Barnes (Stephanie), Larry’s grand children were his heart and joy. There’s no denying that, his grand babies as he called them, were the people that he loved dearly. Emund Prichett II, Lamundre Prichett, Rylan Barnes, Ryia Barnes, Rysen Barnes, Emeri Barnes, Carbrey Barnes Jr.,Guire'Shon Whitley, Andre Gibson Jr. and Deon Collins Jr. (10 grandchildren).
Larry Barnes family tree is deeply rooted. Mr. Barnes is survived by his 2 sisters Donna Ware and Jessica Sifuentes, 1 brother, Jeffery Jacquot (Gaile), four nieces Cametria Alexander, Chere Heath, Jessica Hernandez and Emani Jacquot, 4 nephews, James Franklin Jr. Mike T. Franklin Sr., Jeremy Hernandez and Charles Jacquot, 14 great nieces and nephews as well as a host of cousins of 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of his heritage. Who he loved like sisters and brothers.
