August 8, 1952, marked the birth of Joan Yvonne Kindred, the daughter of the late Nero Kindred, Jr, and his wife, Mrs. Josephine Brown Kindred. Born in Austin, Texas, Joan was the last of four children born to this union. Joan began her formal education in Austin, Texas graduating from the original Anderson High School in 1970. While her career included varied employment opportunities, the majority of her work experience was spent as an employee of St. David’s Hospital. Upon retiring from St. David’s, she worked for Dell Computer.
Joan confessed her hope in Christ at the Ulit Avenue Baptist Church and remained in this fellowship until becoming a member of the Rosewood Avenue Baptist Church. Upon joining Rosewood, she became a faithful and active participant in the church’s Sunday School, mid-week Bible Study, music ministry and mission auxiliaries.
Joan was blessed with a rewarding family life which included two sons, Derrick Kindred and Tommy Miles, Jr. She was also married to Mr. Tommy Miles, Sr. Both of her parents and her brother, Harold Kindred, preceded her in death. On Saturday, May 29, 2021, Joan slipped out of her earthly remains and crossed into eternity.
Left to celebrate her life are her sons, Derrick Kindred and Tommy Miles, Jr., both of Austin, her brother, Nero Kindred, II of Elgin, and her sisters, Barbara Shaw, Houston, Texas, Karolette Green and Karen Kindred, both of Denver, Colorado, and Karmyn Dukes of Houston, Texas, two aunts, Mrs. Viola Wilson and Lillian Kindred, both of Austin, and a host of relatives and friends.
