Janell Sterling Obituary

Janell Sterling known as Mama, Jenny, granny, auntie, and friend, at the age of 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her family in Austin,Texas, on Friday, January 19th, 2024, around 8:00 p.m.

Janell Sterling was born, December 15, 1943, in Austin, TX, to the parents of James and Delilah Sterling. She was the youngest of 14 children and was raised in Austin, Texas.

Having been raised in a Christian home, Janell professed a faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by Rev. Ransom.

Janell attended Kealing Junior High where she was the Spelling Bee Champion, and L. C. Anderson High School, where she played in the Yellow Jacket Marching Band. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1962. After graduating high school Janell attended Durham Nixon Clay Business College. She started her work career working for The State of Texas as an Administrator and The City of Austin (Rosewood Zaragoza Clinic) where she worked for many years until she retried.

She enjoyed playing the piano, clarinet, singing, dancing, and cooking and love entertaining her friends. She was a caregiver for her parents and grandparents until their demise. Janell was an amazing mother to her children and a wonderful grandmother, her family was the world to her. She was full of vibrancy and joy, always with a smile on her face. Her uplifting presence was truly inspiring for those around her. She had a way of bringing people together and forgoing lifelong friendships.

Janell was an awesome aunt and cousin, family meant so much to her. She loved family gatherings listening to music and playing Domino’s. She also loved football and her favorite team was the Pittsburg Stellar. If you were ever in need of help, she wouldn’t hesitate to lend a hand. Janell will be missed!

Janell was proceeded in death by her parents; James and Delilah Sterling, her son; Micheal Sterling, her brothers:; Lester, Otis, James, Andrew, Bubba Lee, J. D., Peter,; and her sisters, Catherine, Dorothy, Margaret, Lucille,; grandchildren,; La Kendra Harris, Destiny Sterling.

She leaves to cherish her memories her one sister, Imogene Sterling Bolden, sis in love, Evelyn Jean Sterling, one daughter, Della Sterling, three sons, Kenneth, Garland and Timothy Sterling, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and beloved friends. 

She fought a good fight, she finished her race, she kept the faith, and now has been received unto her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in His Heavenly Kingdom (2 Timothy 4: 7) Now, let the church rejoice and say, Amen!
