Geraldine “Geri” Jones, age 77, was born on November 9, 1945, in Houston, Texas to her loving mother, Ruby Horton. She was the youngest of two children. She departed from this life on September 14, 2023, but not from our hearts.
She accepted the Lord as her Savior early in life and was also baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with His holy spirit. Her faith in Christ gave her sweet peace and comfort. Geraldine enjoyed gospel music and bible studies with her family.
Geraldine grew up in Houston and attended Booker T. Washington High School and then moved to Navasota where she transferred to George Washington Carver High School. Later she moved to Austin where she spent her entire career caring for others in the health care industry. She worked at Crest Haven, Rebekah Baines Johnson and Austin State School where she retired after 20 years.
She married, the love of her life, Willie James Jones in 1963. They were married for 60 years on September 7, 2023. To that union six children were born.
Geraldine was an avid gardener, interior designer, and craft enthusiast. She enjoyed decorating their home inside and out. For Christmas, she took decorating to another level, making their home a holiday wonderland, especially for her grandchildren. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Geraldine was a wonderful matriarch that always made time for her family.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Horton and sister, Naomi Benjamin.
Geraldine is survived by her husband, Willie James Jones; all their children, Yvonne Burrell (Dwayne), Mildred Culbreath (Fazel), Virgie Belson, Willie Jones Jr. (Vanessa), Michael Jones, and Sheila Jones; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, a nephew and other relatives.
