Ellen Frankllin Dawkins, known for being soft-spoken, sweet, kind, and funny, was the youngest of 13 born to born to Henry Franklin and Annie Doxie. Ellen accepted Christ at an early age; and being part of a musical family, she enjoyed singing with her siblings and relatives.
As a young woman, Ellen met and married Rev. Robert E. Dawkins in 1945, Together, they served as pastor and wife in Austin, Texas. They continued to serve the Lord and the Church until Rev. Dawkins transitioned in 2007. Ellen remained faithful to the ministry and the community until her health would not allow her to do so physically.
Ellen worked 35 years at the Southwest Tower in Austin,Texas and for 10 years at the University of Texas Dorms in Austin,Texas; then retired from both. She went on to work for the State of Texas for 24 years, followed by volunteering with the Foster Grandparents Program prior to retiring again at 90 years old. Ellen remained a faithful member of the Mission at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, which she cherished with all her heart.
Ellen was preceded in death by her 12 siblings, her husband, and daughter Gloria E. Vincent.
Ellen leaves to cherish her memories her son Kenneth R. Dawkins Sr., neice Merilyn Bradshaw, and eight grandchildren; Timothy W. Johnson, Kimberly M Johnson-Hall, Melanie M. Vincent, Cynthia D. Vincent, Ursula E. Nelson, Kenneth R. Dawkins Jr., Sharesa Y. Alexander, and Le Keishia Ellen Dawkins; 13 great-grandchildren: Tameka Wright, Taccara Wright, Andrew Vincent, Brittany Jones, Nicholas Reed, David Arnold, Elijah Alexander, Breanna Nelson, Dorian Dawkins, Joshua Dawkins, Haven Dawkins and Shekinah Crayton and 15 great- great grandchildren.
