Dorothy M. Barlow was born July 20, 1930 in Pflugerville, TX to Wesley Barlow, Sr. and Scottie Lee Jones Barlow.
Dorothy attended Rosewood Elementary, Keeling Jr. High and L. C. Anderson High School. She earned a Bachelors of Science from Huston Tillotson University and a Masters of Education from Prairie View A & M University.
Dorothy accepted Christ while a member of Grant AME Church in east Austin, TX and was a long time member there until the church moved to the north side of town. Dorothy moved her and her family's membership to St. Peter's United Methodist Church on Springdale Road. She worked with ministries for senior adults S.P.A.M.S.and with Vacation Bible School at St. Peters.
She taught fifth grade in AISD for 24 years at several schools.
In 2018 Dorothy moved to Houston, Texas to live closer to her daughter Gayle Edwards. While keeping her church affiliation with St. Peters UMC in Austin, Dorothy was a regular attendee with her daughter at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley, Sr. and Scottie Lee Jones Barlow; brothers Wesley, Jr.; William Lloyd; Lee; Lorenzo (Bill); and Raymond; sister Pauline Barlow.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her only child daughter Scottye Gayle Taylor Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
