On June 4, 1987, Derrick Dwyane Wooley Smith was born to Ms. Anita Jo Wooley and Peter Smith in Harris County, Houston, Texas. Derrick grew up in Houston.
He loved attending Children Church at New Faith Church, Rev. T. R. Williams, Senior Pastor. Derrick Accepted Christ in May of 1983 and was baptized June 2, 1993. He would sit in church and take notes from the Pastor's Sermons when the Children were scheduled to sing in the Adult Worship Service. One Sunday a lady was watching him and remarked, “He takes good notes, I should let him take notes for me.”
In August of 1997 Derrick’s Mom Anita and her family moved to Austin Texas. Their family joined The New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Arnold, Senior Pastor, and begin serving in the Children Ministry on the Junior Usher Board.
Derrick attended Lamar Middle School where he played basketball while in the 7th and 8th grade. He went on to Johnston High School and played basketball there. He also played with the Little League Spurs Basketball team. Derrick Truly loved his children, family, and friends. And we his family truly love him. He always had to make you smile by doing something or saying something funny.
