Clarence Edward Hicks was born on January 2, 1943, in Austin, Texas to the late Juanita (Wright) Hicks and the late Richard B. Hicks. He accepted Christ at an early age. Later in life, he became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. He was first married in 1963 in Austin, Texas. To this union, Lisa and Ryan Hicks were born. He remarried in 1975 to Henrietta Tolbert, to which he remained married for 46 years until her death in 2021.
Clarence started his early career with the State of Texas and then IBM. He later became employed as a Juvenile Probation Officer with Travis County until he retired. After retirement, he went to work for the University of Texas System as a bus driver. He had a deep love for football, especially with the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. As a reward for good behavior, Clarence helped to organize bus trips to see the Dallas Cowboys for children in Gardner-Betts Detention Center.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Henrietta Tolbert Hicks; his parents, Richard B. Hicks and Juanita (Wright) Johnson; and his sister, Darlene René Hicks. He leaves to cherish his memory his Children: Lisa LaNette Hicks of Austin, Texas; Ryan Keith Hicks (Evelyn) of Richmond, Texas; Leonard Tolbert and Debra Tolbert of Austin, Texas; Grandchildren: Timothy Randel of Austin, Texas; Brianna Hicks of San Antonio, Texas; Asia Tolbert Cruz (Arnaldo), Ashley Tolbert, Algeree Tolbert, and Abdul Clark (Tisha) of Austin, Texas; Austyn and Rylyn Hicks of Richmond, Texas; Great-grandchildren: Marleigh Lewis and Ivy Houston of San Antonio, Texas; Ania Alexander, Kyra Alexander, Kaya Cruz, Aavion Waldon, Ayden Chase, Jordyn Chase, Austyn Chase, Alaysia, Amauri, Elijah and Cameron Clark, all of Austin, Texas; Sister: Bessie Hicks Mayfield; Brother: Richard Lee Hicks; Brothers-in-Love: Edward L. Tolbert (Nancy) and Horace Tolbert, Jr. of Austin, TX; and other relatives and friends.
