Obituary

Carol Jean Ellison-King was born to Thomas and Jessie Harvey Ellison on September 28, 1946. She departed this life on April 1, 2023. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Ellison, Jr.

Carol married her high school sweetheart, Levester Steen, Sr., and to this union three sons were born: Thomas Mark Steen, Levester Steen, Jr., and Gregory Wayne Steen. Carol later married Leslie King and they moved their family to New Mexico.

Carol professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. Carol's parents were founding members of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and she faithfully served there throughout her youth.

Carol was educated in Austin Public School. She was talented and excelled in many areas academically, athletically, and musically. She was a proud member of the Johnson High School Ram band and was a star track athlete. Her post high school education included earning a certification in the field of health sciences at the College of Southern Nevada. Prior to retiring, Carol had a long, rewarding career at Progressive Insurance in Austin, Texas and Cleveland, Ohio.

Carol enjoyed extensive travel and had a passion and adoration for God’s creations. From the tiniest plant to the most majestic mountains, she traveled to experience it all.

She was a voracious reader and was knowledgeable on many subjects. Carol was an engaging conversationalist. Because of her vast knowledge, compassion, and loving spirit, friends and loved ones enjoyed being in her presence and she never met a stranger. Carol had eclectic musical taste and had a special fondness for Elton John, James Brown, and Celine Dion.

Carol’s thirst for knowledge and her adventurous spirit were matched only by her enormous heart. Carol loved her family without abandonment and that love knew no boundaries. Her love for family was matched equally by their endless love for her.

In addition to her sons, Thomas (Jean), Levester “Petey”, and Gregory, those left to cherish her memory include siblings, Joan Ellison-Satterwhite, Burt Ellison (Linda), and Kenneth Ellison (Marsha); her 11 precious grandchildren, 14 adored great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and enduring friends.
