Betty Jean (Ates) Walker along with her twin brother Jimmy Rogers Ates, was born on July 31, 1937 to W. L. (Buck) Ates and Iver Margaret (Dennis) Ates in Austin, Texas.
She confessed her love for Christ at an early age as a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. When her family moved to South Austin she became a member of the Friendly Will Baptist Church. After her marriage to Robert L. (Coatsy) Walker on August 4, 1956, to which six children were born, she became a member of the Rock Quarry Missionary Baptist Church. She served in many capacities at R.Q.M.B.C including Choir President, Senior Mission President, and Youth Activities Coordinator. She had a special passion for culinary arts and often created extraordinary meals for church activities and programs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Wayne, Dennis, and Horace Ates, her twin Jimmy, sisters Serena Mae (Ates) Green, Earlyina Kayes Ates, and her son John Walker. She leaves to cherish her memories a son Robert L. Walker, Jr., daughters Rhonda Pittman (Madger), Jean Walker, Joan Fisher (Jimmy), and Donna Williams (Eugene), seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
