Bessie, affectionately known to many as ‘Mama Dear,’ was born on November 16, 1927. A native Texan, she graduated from Anderson High School in Austin. By way of her late husband Vernon’s Air Force career, she would travel extensively throughout life with their three children.
She herself worked as a seamstress and base exchange services manager. A woman of great faith, warm kindness and quick wit, Bessie loved conversation, jigsaw puzzles, and most of all, enjoying time with her family and life-long friends.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty Jo Benford, Mary Ann Thomas, and Faye Thomas; daughters, Patricia Guidry and Desyria Short (her husband Samuel); grandchildren John Sharp II, Nichole Ryals, Kristin Joi Uzoh, and Kimberly Francois; great grandchildren Johnny Sharp III, Ahjai Sharp, EthanCole Sharp, NicholasCain Sharp, Aaliyah Ryals, Eli Uzoh, Korinne Uzoh, Lucas Francois; her cousin and oldest childhood friend, Arthur Durst and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
