The life of Rev. Andrew Lee Sorrells:
Andrew Lee Sorrells was born February 18, 1949 to Virgil and Essie Mae Sorrells, Sr. in Manchaca Texas. He departed this life on Thursday, March 19, 2020. He attended, Buda and Del Valle Elementary Schools and Austin Public Schools. After High School Andrew pursued a career as a Chef working for Joey’s fine foods and Mama’s Kitchen. As he pursued additional career interests, Andrew was employed at Enterprise Rentals.
In was in 1970 Andrew Sorrells accepted his calling into the ministry under Pastor Leroy Smith where he was also ordained. Upon the acceptance of his calling Andrew studied the word of God and would share the gospel with anyone with a listening ear while focusing on “seeking and saving that which is lost”. His ministry also included preaching to the public downtown at Ministry Under the Bridge.
He was a member of New Lincoln Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev A.R. Evans, Sr. In 2009 Rev. Andrew Sorrells organized and pastored The Church of Jesus Christ, Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. As his health began to fail him, Rev. Sorrells relinquished his pastoral leadership but not his preaching. Throughout his life Rev. Andrew Sorrells remained on fire for the Lord as he continued to evangelize and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Rev. Andrew Sorrells was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Rev. Leroy Johnson, Pastor.
Finally, Rev. Andrew Sorrells was a family man who loved and cherished his family by taking loving care of them. He will be greatly missed. We all know that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Andrew is preceded in death by his parents Mr. Virgil and Essie Mae Sorrells, Sr. and siblings; sisters-Mildred, Mary, and Doris; brothers-Melvin and Woodie.
He is survived by wife: Magdalene Grant Sorrells
Children: Michael Sorrells, son and Andrenette Lavone Sorrells, daughter.
Grandchildren: Jeremiah Montoya, Mary Montoya, Emanuel Blakemore, Gracie Sorrells, James Ismael Sorrells and Naomi Geneva Sorrells.
Siblings: Sisters-Earselean, Vivian, Cedel, Ruthie, Jewel and Henrietta (Robinson); Brothers- Virgil Jr, Corda, Carl, Bruce, Earl, James, Otis (Robert Allen).
Other Family Members: A host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Rev. Sorrells’ entire family believes he departed this life with an intimate relationship with God as he entered into God’s Kingdom.
