Alma Marie Mason was born on May 25th, 1937 in Austin, Texas; the fifth of five children of Clara and Mahue Dukes.
Marie graduated from the old Anderson High School, Austin, Texas in 1954. She married Melvin Mason and their family included a son-Ronald Ray Mason and a daughter-Sylvia Ann Thomas.
While attending old Anderson High School, Marie was a very active athlete. She was a talented tennis player during a time when there were no major African American tennis players. In addition, Marie was a member of the Jackettes and she served as President of the Junior Red Cross.
Once she graduated, Marie attended Durham Business College; which is where she met Melvin Mason. They were faithfully married for 61 years.
Marie professed her faith in Christ at an early age while attending New Hope Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She was an active member of the church choir. Later in life, Marie and her husband converted to the Catholic faith and began attending Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Austin, Texas. She was a dedicated member of the Holy Cross's Choir for years.
Marie's working career included being a dental assistant for Dr. Sidney White for 22 years. Her next challenge was working as a Lead Claims Adjuster with Northwestern Insurance, which is where she retired after 20 years of service.
Survivors include son-Ronald Ray Mason, daughter-Sylvia Ann Thomas, granddaughters-Felicia Mason-Edwards & Arrmenthe Ramey and grandsonBrandon Wilkerson. Marie also had 7 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her mother & father, three sisters, one brother and a son-in-law.
