Vernell Teresa Lee was born January 16, 1929 in Del Valle, Texas to the late Millard Lee and Henrietta McKinley-Bell. She departed this life on May 15, 2018.
Vernell attended Fontana Junior High School in Fontana, California and L.C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas, and finally at Austin Community college in Austin, Texas. She has been a Parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church since the late 1940’s. She retired from Holy Cross Hospital after serving 20 years and later retired from the State of Texas after serving 10 years.
Over the years Vernell was actively involved in community leadership and advocacy serving on the City of Austin Dental Health Advisory Committee, Neighborhood Centers of Austin. Most recently, she served 8 years on the Board of Directors for Assisting Texas with Housing.
Family was her greatest love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Millard Lee and Henrietta McKinley-Bell; Brother, Willie Anderson of California, sons, Dominic Sr. and daughter, Dionne, and Rickie of Texas.
Her surviving children are Anthony, Jeanella, Flynn, Teresa and Lillian. She was the proud grandmother to numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
