Ruth Harrison Porter was born in Taylor, Texas to Wash and Callie Harrison on August 22, 1934. Ruth confessed Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
Later, Ruth was united to Henry Porter, Jr. of Waco, Texas and to this union were born eight children whom they dearly loved.
Ruth retired after 27 years of dedicated service at Motorola. Ruth was an exceptional cook and was best known for her delicious grits and oatmeal. She was the “sunshine in the morning” that so many Motoroleans look forward to.
Ruth was called to her heavenly home on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:43 a.m.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Henry Porter, Jr.; parents Wash Harrison, Sr. and Callie Norwood Harrison; sisters Rosie Lee Robinson and Doris M. Harrison Taylor; brothers Ernest Harrison, Howard Harrison and Authur Lee Harrison.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Shirley Harrison Colter of Austin, Texas, Robert Lee Porter, Sr. (Lisa Porter) of Pflugerville, Texas, James Lee Porter, Sr. of Austin, Texas, Christene Porter Lewis of Austin, Texas Laverne Dawson of Austin, Texas, Melvin Lee Porter of Austin, Texas, Brenda Porter Jones of Austin, Texas and Ricky Lee Porter, Sr. (Tina Porter) of Austin, Texas. She also leaves her brothers Rev. Chester Harrison of Temple, Texas, Wash Harrison, Jr. of Austin, Texas and Pastor Roy M. Harrison (Paula Harrison) of Austin, Texas; 17 grandchildren and a host of great great grandchildren.
