Rector Ray Gray, Jr. (aka Ray Jr.) was born October 29, 1947 in Austin, Texas to Rector Ray Gray, Sr. and Alma Doris (Ahart) Gray. He was the eldest of three children. He departed this life on Wednesday July 18, 2018.
Ray, Jr. was baptized at an early age and accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at St. Peters Methodist Church. He was a member of St. Peters Methodist Jr Choir and participated in several other youth church activities and youth ministries. Ray Jr. attended the Austin Independent School District (AISD) through Rosewood Elementary, Kealing Jr. High and graduated from the Old L.C. Anderson High in 1966. He worked for the Veteran Administration (VA) for over 10 years and retired in the early 1980’s due to a disability.
Ray, Jr. was a caring and loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He loved to spend time with family and friends and he always had a smile on his face. He was very protective of his family members.
Ray, Jr. was a kind, encouraging, and supportive father and grandfather to his one and only daughter and two grandchildren. He always expressed how proud he was of their accomplishments and how honored he was to be a “Daddy and PawPaw”. He loved his father, brother, sister-in-law, and his niece and nephews. He loved unconditionally. Nothing was more important than his relationships with his family.
Ray, Jr. loved sports and he was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy fan. He was also an excellent high school athlete and participated in multiple sports. As an adult, he also led and participated in several slow pitch softball teams in the Austin area.
Ray Jr. was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Doris Gray, brother, Anthony J. Gray, and grandparents.
Ray Jr. is survived by his father, Rector Ray Gray, Sr., daughter Teena R. Gray-Hale (Rodney), grandchildren, Da’Vonna N. Corzine and Tre’sten M. Gray-Hale, brother, Deacon Larry D. Gray, Sr., (Kathy), nephews, Larry D. Gray, Jr., Anthony J. Gray, niece, Kimberly J. (Gray) Barrett (Dorrell), and great nephew, Daniel K. Barrett, His God Sister Marion Mitchell and a host of other relatives and friends.
