Ralph Douglas Jones was born March 20, 1953 to John Westley Jones and Frances Joan Daniels in Taylor, Texas. His biological father passed away when he was very young so he was raised by his mother and step father Roosevelt Booker Sampson.
Ralph received his formal education through Hopewell School in Round Rock, Texas. Ralph attended and received his high school diploma from Stephen F. Austin High School. While in High School Ralph was an all-star athlete and participated in a number of sports from football to basketball. After graduating high school Ralph completed a year of college at Central Texas College in Killeen.
Ralph is no stranger to hard work. Hard work and determination led him to seek employment working for the state at the Texas Education Agency (T.E.A). He was a valued member of the T.E.A. team for over 40 years. Ralph’s personality was upbeat and energetic. He quickly made friends with many on staff throughout the agency. During his tenure he received a number of awards for his hard work and service over the years which included the J. Warren Hitt Distinguished Service Reward for meritorious achievement.
When not working hard to provide for his family Ralph enjoyed watching ESPN but he especially enjoyed football and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. In addition, in his leisure time, he enjoyed maintaining his mother’s lawn, cooking, washing his cars, and playing spades. He often crowned himself “King” of dominos and cards. If he could not beat you at a game, he certainly would out talk you. Ralph was the life of the party and brought joy to all who knew him. He had a very loving heart and always had something positive and uplifting to say. He genuinely loved his family and friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father, John Westley Jones and his brothers Leslie Ray Jones and Ronald Sampson.
Ralph leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Frances Joan Sampson, his sister Gwendolyn Marie Darby, his brother Booker LaRue Sampson, his wife Georgie Lee Jackson-Jones and his children India Renee Jones, Kisha Latrice Jones, Datron Ray Jones, Douglas Wayne Jones, Rodney Lemuel, Racheal Jackson, Eunice Faye Jackson, and Shantea Bunton and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
