James Robinson fondly known to many as “JJ” was born February 22, 1952 to parents Beatrice and Salem Robinson, Sr. who both precede him in death. He attended L. L. Campbell Elementary, Kealing Junior High and L. C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. Some of you may not have known “JJ” began his athletic career as a quarter back while attending Kealing Junior High. He had a precise hand, was quick and could execute his plays. While attending L. C. Anderson during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s young men took extreme pride in their appearance and James along with his circle of friends were refined in their attire. “JJ” always coordinated his shoes, silk socks, slacks and starched jeans. As we would say in the day “He was sharp as a tack.”
For those who knew James personally, knew him as a peacemaker and loved his family and friends regardless of the situations he encountered in his life. You would find him smiling and joking among those around him. James had one true love in his life, and he married Ms. Janet Burton and they remained friends until his death. He was a friend to all, and family meant everything to him. His childhood friend Tillman Woods was like his brother and “JJ’s” family will never allow this bond to be broken.
It was important to James that he stayed informed with every day and world events. He made it a point to read the paper, have a good conversation and be ready to debate you on any topic. But, most import and above all, “JJ” accepted Christ in his life. He enjoyed the word of God delivered by Pastor A.W.A. Mays. When his health would allow him, he would make his way to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for words of encouragement. We all will truly miss him. We were not ready for him to go just yet, but God knew the right time to bring him home. No more pain and long suffering for him to endure. James is free and gone to his “New Home” and to God be the glory.
