George Allen Washington, Jr.

June 9, 1925 ~ January 15, 2018 (age 92)

George Allen Washington Jr, affectionately known as “Junior” by his family passed away on Monday January 15, 2018 after a season of illness.

 George, the second of six children, was born in Fredericksburg, Gillespie County Texas to a set of God fearing parents George Allen, and Zola Lee Washington on June 9, 1925. He attended public schools in Fredericksburg and later he and his older sister Katherine Washington-Montgomery moved to Austin to seek employment opportunities. George is remembered by his family  and friends as  a  kind gentleman who had a peaceful disposition,  friendly personality, full of fun, and demonstrated a positive outlook on life. 

He professed Christ at a very young age and joined Rosewood Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Griffin. He later joined the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he worship, served, and dedicated his life to the divine cause of ministry until his death.   For over forty years; he served faithfully under; the leadership of the Late Pastor O. T. Arnold.  He continued to serve under the leadership and guidance of Pastor Roy Jones Sr. and lastly under the progressive leadership of Pastor Roy Jones Jr.  During his many years of service to his church he served as one of the first members of the church finance team,  Church Deacon Board, church property maintenance team including; landscaping, facility upkeep and repairs,  and whatever was needed to be done to insure the upkeep of God’s house.  Above all Deacon Washington enjoyed helping the people of the congregation with their daily needs.

He married Mrs. Sedalia Montgomery Washington in 1950, and to that union one son was born Charles Douglas Washington. Both wife and son preceded him in death.

George worked as a construction worker, and later became an entrepreneur where for over 40 years he built a successful landscaping service business serving Austin, and surrounding area communities until he retired.

In 1985 he married his best friend Mrs. Maude B. Knotts and they remained faithful to this union until his death.  Together they enjoyed a loving and supportive family including three stepsons; whom he loved, four grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

George is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lewis Edward Washington, and Supt. Joel. L. Washington, two Sisters; Katherine Montgomery, Ola Mae Brown.

He leaves to morn his loving wife Mrs. Maude B.  Washington of Austin, Texas, one sister Dr. Rebecca Washington-Berry of Apple Valley, CA, three step sons Colonel E. Haywood, Harris L. Young, Raymond Michael Young Jr., three grandsons, one granddaughter, thirteen great grandchildren all of Austin, Texas, two sister in laws Mrs. Bertha Washington Denver, CO, Mrs. Eldin Phillips-Washington of Elgin, Texas, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, church family, and love ones.


This service is under the auspices of New Hope Missionary Baptist  Church, Rev. Roy Jones, Pastor.
