Dempsey “Deda” Caldwell, Jr. was born June 8, 1949, not only was he the youngest of four beautiful children, he was the only son to Dempsey Caldwell, Sr. and Willida Young-Caldwell.
Deda started his education in Gilbert, Arizona. Later, when the family moved to Austin, Texas he attended keeling Junior High and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School in 1967.
As a young man, Deda was hired at IBM where he later retired from. He excelled in his duties which led him to many awards and recognition as well as the opportunity to travel to other IBM locations. He spent a few years working for IBM in Minnesota where he and good friend Raul Guzman were roommates; he truly treasured the time spent there. He didn’t mind watching the Timberwolves and Vikings, however he was and always will be a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan.
Deda was a kind and intelligent man, who made friends easily. He was such a joy to be around and always had a funny story to tell. As a child he would often hang around the older guys, but they never
Minded because of how cool he was. Deda always kept his circle close: Riley Norwood (Kevin’s God Father), Charles King, and Andrew Brown were more like brothers than anything else.
Deda loved his family and always made us his first priority. He was a compassionate and warm person who left an everlasting impression on everyone he crossed paths with. Deda aimed to be the best example of a leader and he displayed these characteristics with such integrity and honor.
He married Cynthia Johnson and from this union their only child was born, Kevin “Casey” Caldwell. Deda was a loving and caring father. If you knew him, you know Casey was the light in his eyes and the beat in his heart. The bond and lessons between the two of them could never be broken, a once in a lifetime love.
On January 15, 2018, God opened the gates to welcome Deda back home. Deda was preceded in death by his father, Dempsey Caldwell, Sr., grandparents: Jake and Amanda Young, Johnnie and Lennie Caldwell, and niece Karen Hawkins.
