Debra Anne OvertonJuly 16, 1954 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 63)
Debra Anne Overton was the first of four children born to Gentry Overton, II and Bettye D. Hill Overton on July 16, 1954 in Austin, Texas.
At an early age she began attending Ebenezer Third Baptist Church with her late great grandmother, Frances A. Galloway Shaw. When she was twelve years old she professed her belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized July 3, 1966 under the Pastoral Leadershp of Reverend Robert L. Rowe.
She was a product of the Austin Independent School District where she attended Oak Springs and Rosewood Elementary Schools, Allan Junior High and graduated from A. S. Johnston High School in 1974. She continued her eduation at Austin Community College (ACC) and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration while being employed with ACC for over 40 years.
Debra was a faithful member of Ebenezer for over 50 years where she served in the Woman’s Missionary Union – Circle 8, the Social Committee for the Church and the Grief Ministry. She loved working with children and was the Discipleship Training Children’s Department Coordinator. She helped the children improve their skills in Bible Drill and assisted them in preparation for the Bible Drill Competition. On Saturdays, Debra could be found in the Fellowship Hall preparing refreshments for the children.
She was affiliated with Austin Interfaith and was a board member of the East Austin Economic Development Corporation.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Gentry Overton, III and her son, Shannon Dustin. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Sheila Dawn; her brother Gary Lynn; sister, Jo Michelle; aunt Evelyn L. Rawlings from Freeport, New York; four nephews; two nieces, many relatives and friends.
