Beatrice “Bea” Faye Houston Smith, the third child of O.C. Houston, Sr. and Lue Etta Foster Houston, was born on February 27, 1949 in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Jessie Doody and O.C. Houston, Jr.
Bea developed a passion for education and excelled in Austin public schools, Rosewood Elementary School and Kealing Junior High School, until she graduated with honors from the Original L.C. Anderson High School in 1967.
While attending L.C. Anderson High School, she was an active member of several organizations, including the National Honor Society, Yellow Jacket Band, Majorettes, and Future Teachers of America.
She continued her rigorous education at Prairie View A&M University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 and a Master of Education degree in 1975, focusing her thesis work on solving vital communication weaknesses between teachers and administrators in educational settings.
Bea accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Austin where she remained a faithful and dedicated servant until her health declined and she moved to League City. She was active in numerous church organizations, including Sunday School and Mission Group. She also served as a deaconess.
In 1974, Bea married Donald C. “Smitty” Smith. From this union, the joy of her life, Dr. Angelica “Angel” Smith Robinson, was born in 1978.
Bea was a member of the Capital City Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction and was admired as a woman with exceptional strength and grace.
She leaves to cherish her joyous memories, her loving daughter, Dr. Angel Robinson (husband Cedric Robinson), and three beautiful grandchildren named Caleb, Micah, and Elijah Robinson. She also leaves her loving sister Beverly Houston Piper, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and countless friends.
