Barbara Alice Patterson Hart (Bobbie) was born June 10, 1935 in Yoakum, Texas. She was the fourth child of four children born to Inez Brownlow Patterson (Mama Patterson). Mama Patterson moved Barbara and her three siblings Eugene Patterson, Doris Patterson, and Ruth Patterson from Yoakum, Texas to Austin, Texas in the early 1940s. Mama Patterson, Eugene, Doris, and Ruth, preceded Barbara in death.
Barbara received Christ at an early age and attended the No. 1 Church of God in Christ Austin, Texas, under the leadership of Elder B.J. Woods and later under the leadership of Elder Robert A. Davis.
Barbara graduated in 1953 from L.C. Anderson High School, located in East Austin. Barbara graduated (Cum Laude) from Huston-Tillotson College in1957. While at Huston-Tillotson, Barbara pledged and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Barbara married Sherman Patton, Sr. To this union two children were born: Sherman, Jr. and Sharon Lanell Patton. Barbara later married Jesse Lee Hart, and to this union one child, Sandra Dean Hart was born.
In the early 1960s, Barbara worked for Fuller Sheffield Funeral Home, Austin, Texas, and was a teacher in the Elgin Public School District, Elgin, Texas. Barbara left the education field to work for Alcoa Aluminun Company, Rockdale, Texas. Barbara was also employed at Westinghouse Electric, Round Rock, Texas and retired in 2010 at age 75 from the Travis County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office.
Barbara was the president of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Blackshear Elementary School in the 1960s. Barbara worked as an Election Official during all city, state and federal elections until 1997, and participated in various civic organizations throughout the city of Austin during her lifetime.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory one son: Sherman Patton, Jr. (Glenda), Katy, Texas, and two daughters: Sharon Roland (John), Buda, Texas, and Sandra Hart Favors, Austin, Texas. Barbara loved her six grandchildren; Lori Hall (Reginald), Bethany Bigham (Dominique), Sherman Patton, III, Bradi Patton, Jared D. Roland, and Landon Patton. Barbara cherished her seven great-grandchildren; Tearra, Braylen, Jordyn, Chandon, Zariah, Keiston, and Ezekiel, a host of extended family and friends, and special friend and neighbor Helen Clark.
