A.J. Wilson McPhaul III was born on December 26, 1951 in Austin, Texas to Willis McPhaul and Nellie Mae McPhaul.
A.J. confessed his hope in Christ at an early age uniting with Goodwill Baptist Church where he remained an active and faithful member of the church.
A.J. was educated in the Austin Independent School District. He was the first African American student to attend Becker Elementary School. He graduated from Travis High School where he excelled in football and basketball.
A.J. loved working with children. His work career was with the Austin Independent School District, Parks and Recreation department and he retired from the State of Texas.
A.J. married the love of his life, Thelma King and to this union 2 sons were born: A.J. and Jason.
A.J. caught the eye of a local movie director and had roles in 2 major motion pictures. He played Sheriff Earl in “Joe” staring Nicholas Cage and he had a role in “Manglehorn” staring Al Pacino.
On Friday, December 13, 2019, A.J. Wilson McPhaul, III finished his final scene when he received his call from God to come home. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Nellie McPhaul, grandparents and uncles Samuel Wilson and Walter Wilson.
A.J. leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of forty-five years, Thelma; father, Willis (Dorothy) McPhaul; daughter, Valerie King; sons, A.J. Wilson McPhaul, IV, and Jason (Hannah) McPhaul; grandchildren, Keisha, Heather, Yvette, Wilson, Isaiah, and Olivia; niece, Dorothy Nell Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends
