Obituary for Karen Hawkins

On April 14, 1964, the world was forever changed when Lula Jean Hawkins and Oswald Eugene Hawkins were blessed by the birth of their daughter Karen Yvette Hawkins. Karen accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the east Nineteenth Street Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend Milton C. Arnold. On July 20, 2017, the Lord picked this beautiful rose to forever sweeten the fragrance of His garden.

Karen is a product of the Austin, Texas school system graduating in 1982 from Lyndon Baines Johnson High School. In High School Karen was a cheerleader and active in various campus activities. She earned a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008. She later attended graduate school at UT earning her Masters in Social Work in 2010. In addition, she was a Certified Case Manager and and a Certified Life Coach. She recently obtained her certification as Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

At the time of her passing, she was employed by Humana Behavioral Health as a Behavioral Health Specialist.

She was preceded in death by her father Oswald Eugene Hawkins, her grandmother Jimmie Lee Higgins, and her grandfather Dempsey Caldwell, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her children: son - Chad Avery Pena and daughter - Cierra Iman Johnson; her mother Lula Jean Hawkins; her brother Eugene "Duke" Durpee Hawkins, sister Shauna Breonne Hawkins, sister-in-law Charlotte Medearis-Hawkins, grandmother Willilda Caldwell, aunts Amanda "Chicken" Caldwell, Lennie Caldwell Hunter, her uncles Dempsey Caldwell, Jr.; nieces Tarann Hawkins, Azure Hawkins (Andrew Musasa), nephew Scyler Hawkins; great nieces Ryann Johnson and Zara Musasa, great nephews Rylan Johnson and Damian Musasa, and a host of relatives and friends,.
